Thailand scores higher than the average score of countries in its region, but below countries in its income group, the global average, and top performers. It would benefit from some improvements to its cigarette tax system.

Thailand scores well in tax share, but scores poorly in cigarette price, affordability change, and tax structure. It would greatly benefit from higher cigarette prices, reducing the cigarette affordability, and improving the tax structure.
Scores Over Time
Thailand's overall score relatively stayed unchanged between 2014 and 2022. During the period, there was a decrease in the tax structure score although a slight increase in the tax share of price is seen in 2022.
