Sri Lanka scores better than the average scores of countries in its region and income group, and higher than the global average, yet there is ample room for improvement relative to top performing countries.

Sri Lanka scores well in cigarette price but scores poorly in affordability change and tax structure, and in the mid-range in tax share. It would greatly benefit from reducing the cigarette affordability, improving the tax structure, and increasing the tax share of price.
Scores Over Time
Sri Lanka's overall score increased from 2014 to 2020, then it decreased in 2022. There was improvement in the affordability change and tax share of price scores before they fell down in 2022.
