Economics for Health-ATCA Webinar: Harnessing Tobacco Taxation for Health Financing Across Africa
This is a recording of the Economics for Health and African Tobacco Control Alliance (ATCA) webinar for the launch of the Cigarette Tax Scorecard (4th Edition): Spotlight on Sub-Saharan Africa regional brief, presented on August 20, 2026.
The webinar included presentations from the lead author of the Scorecard, Jeffrey Drope; Tizita Wondwossen from Mathiwos Wondu Foundation in Ethiopia; Alex Kombat from the Revenue Authority in Ghana; Gustavo Moreira from the Ministry of Finance in Cabo Verde, and Linstrom K. Marangu from the African Tax Administration Forum was the keynote speaker. ATCA's Gloria Gonese gave welcome remarks and Caleb Ayong moderated the event. The presenters highlighted current success stories in tobacco taxation across the region and opportunities to strengthen policies.
