2024 was a big year for us...

We transitioned to Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, rebranded to Economics for Health, welcomed new team members, organized a global think tank partner meeting, and continued engaging with stakeholders around the globe! 

Here are some of the highlights from our year:

We released the 3rd edition of our Cigarette Tax Scorecard, which found that countries are not making sufficient progress on tobacco tax policies and largely failing to reduce affordability over time.

The Scorecard is also available in Arabic, Bahasa Indonesia, French, Portuguese, and Spanish for a larger, global reach. 

We launched our 3rd supplement with BMJ's Tobacco Control with 14 original studies on the economics of tobacco taxes around the world from our partners. 

The supplement includes research from 11 countries assessing economic cost of smoking, impact on poverty, youth initiation, the illicit market, and more. 

We organized our first global meeting with our partner, Vienna Institute for International Economic Studies, which brought together research teams from 23 countries and 4 intergovernmental organization to discuss progress and challenges in tobacco tax policy and related research endeavors.

We published 50+ research products on the economics of tobacco & alcohol with our think tank partners, first as Tobacconomics and now as Economics for Health! 

We disseminated our findings through in-person meetings, webinars, social media, and more, engaging with policy makers to inform more effective, evidence-based tax policies.
