Ángel López Nicolás, Ph.D.

Ángel López Nicolás is Professor of Economics at the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena. He joined the university in 2004 and was appointed Professor in 2009. His recent research focuses on the economics of tobacco control, with particular attention to the European Union’s revision of its Tobacco Tax Directive. His work examines tax design, price and consumption effects, cross-country impacts, and fiscal implications, with the aim of producing evidence that can support effective public health policy. Before joining Cartagena, he held academic posts at Universitat Pompeu Fabra and the Universidad de Murcia, and was also a sabbatical scholar at the University of York.

He holds a Ph.D. and an MA in Economics from the European University Institute, and a BSc in Mathematics and Economics from Keele University.
