Amit Summan, Ph.D.
EconomistDr. Amit Summan is an Economist on the Economics for Health team at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and a Visiting Fellow at the One Health Trust. His work focuses on evaluating fiscal and regulatory policies to improve public health, with current projects examining e-cigarette regulation and tobacco control in the United States. He also contributes to global research on the design and impact of fiscal policies for health—including taxation of tobacco, alcohol, and sugar-sweetened beverages—using econometric and modeling approaches to assess their effects on health outcomes and equity.
In his previous position as a Research Fellow at the One Health Trust, his research focused on child and maternal health, fiscal policy for health, and the economic evaluation of government health interventions in low- and middle-income countries. His work has supported policy-relevant efforts for the World Health Organization, Bloomberg Philanthropies, and the Center for Global Development.
Dr. Summan received his Ph.D. in Development Economics from Wageningen University, an M.A. in Economics from the University of Guelph, and a B.Comm in Economics and Finance, also from the University of Guelph.
